The Elements of Novel: Conflicts

Conflict is what the reader involves emotionally in what is happening. Meanwhile, Jones says that a conflict consists of three categories: social conflict, psychological conflict, and physical conflict.

There are three kinds of conflicts as follows:
1. Social conflict is a conflict between one person to another. In other words, the conflict occurs between man and man. For example: Huckleberry wants to escape from his widow Douglas’s house and his father.
2. Physical conflict is a conflict between human being and nature or environment. This conflict usually occurs between man and environment.
3. Psychological conflict is a conflict between a man and himself, his conscience, his guilty feeling or simply trying to decide what he is going to do. In other words, the conflict occurs between man and himself.
